most beautiful non-motorized multi-use trails. The Cannon Township Trail was rst
conceived in the early 1990s as part of the township’s recreation plan and was nurtured along by Cannon Township Clerk Bonnie Blackledge. The rst 4 miles of paved asphalt trail were completed in 2007 from Cannon Township Hall to Townsend County Park. In 2015, the trail was extended south into downtown Cannonsburg for a total length
of 4.6 miles.
Unlike rail trails, which are relatively at
and straight, the Cannon Township Trail
was built from scratch and has several hilly
sections and lots of curves and turns. The
trail meanders through some of the loveliest terrain in historic Cannon Township. Your journey will take you through meadows and woodlands, along Sun sh Lake, over creeks, ravines and marshes with most of the trail

sheltered by shady trees. Boardwalks traverse the marshy areas with minimal impact to the delicate ecosystem.
Ample parking is available at Cannon Township Of ces, Townsend County Park and downtown Cannonsburg, and a small parking area at the Cannonsburg Cemetery.
Limited to those on foot, skis or bicycles, the wide paved trail lends itself to a hearty workout or a restorative nature walk. Take in a scenic view of Sunfish Lake or enjoy a snack at one of the picnic areas along the way. We see wildlife everytime we ride or walk the trail.
